PerForMIA ‘23 is an in-person festival scheduled to take place at Edge Zones Art Space in Miami, FL on December 9, from 6 - 11 pm. Its aim is to showcase the diversity of the independent performing arts scene in Miami and the wider USA. Following in the footsteps of the Edge Zones Miami Performance International Festival ‘23, which examined the impacts of social tension and unrest and reflected on the global consequences of climate change, war, peace, inequality, food insecurity, and prejudice, PerForMIA ‘23 seeks to offer a new perspective on global politics and its implications for performances and festivals.

Building on the Miami Performance International Festival’s reputation as the most important performance festival in South Florida, PerForMIA seeks to further its efforts to enhance public appreciation and access to art across Miami. Scheduled to coincide with Miami Art Week 2023 at Edge Zones, the multidisciplinary program will run alongside “Multiple Experiences: Contemporary Views from The Caribbean,” featuring three solo exhibitions by artists Nelson Gutierrez, Elsa María Meléndez, and Charo Oquet. This one-evening event will bring together local, national, and international artists and participants, fostering critical dialogue between artists and local audiences at all career stages. Each year, audiences from Miami and beyond come together to appreciate the diverse ways in which artists represent and interpret their social realities.
