What does it mean when land grows across water? This effort requires the suspension of a disbelief along with stone, bolt, and beam. This act against gravity and those forces that would see straight lines waver is also their affirmation. The weight of bridge pushing down is simultaneously the silent upward push of its supports. Fundamental elements arranged in a still life choreography, slowly dancing over - and then into - the Earth. This Earth, she is never still. Her song is one of commotion and upheaval. Crackling tectonics and shapeless oceans.
We've lost the land-bridge that made mirrors of continental coasts. Impossible chasms - who dared ask of rope to stretch across our fissures for plank and foot? To challenge the wind and our trust in another's ingenuity? When does the shortening of a distance affect the length of a life?
The physiological mechanics of ant bodies allows them to not only form complex structures, but achieve the properties of less-solid materials when cooperating as one. In pieces these monuments are built. The will stretch, wade, and snake until their reach finds reason for dis-integration. The clasping of hands. The binding of wire. Blue electric arcs. Eyes. Tongue. Breath.
