(This is a fundraiser for the team's NPS registration costs so bring extra friends or bring bigger bills or plan to buy merch etc! We would greatly appreciate the support!)
Note: unfortunately this space is not wheelchair accessible.
WINNERS (top 4) will represent Chicago as the "Lethal Poetry Slam Team" at the 2018 National Poetry Slam (in Chicago Aug 13-18). For more info about NPS go to www.npschi.com or www.nationalpoetryslam.com
RULES FOR LC & Grand Slam:
*Poems may not be repeated on the date of the event (but poems used in prior qualifiers may be used)
*Bring your BEST work! Prepare at least 4 poems even though you will not use all the poems in competition!
*All poems must be original works BY YOU! You cannot have someone else write your work!
*All poets will write a short poem based on a prompt provided upon entry to the venue! LC poet that qualifies for grand slam will end up writing 2! Don't be scared, the audience will understand that you *just wrote the thing*
*No hate speech in or outside of your poems: no ableist, racist, sexist, xenophobic, agist, etc etc etc on the mic or off the mic!!
IF YOU MAKE THE TEAM:
*You MUST commit to being available for the ENTIRE WEEK of festival! You cannot reschedule your team's bouts! You cannot send a partial team to a bout! All team members MUST BE PRESENT at all competitions in order to not disqualify your team from the overall competition!
*Give it your ALL! You will be representing Chicago on a NATIONAL STAGE event though it's on our home turf! Locals often come to see their home town team compete because of affinity for their city! So, you WANT your local community to see you as the local rockstar!
